About the Fund
The Zach Ramsey Children’s Cancer Fund was established in 2005 to provide financial assistance to the parents of children battling cancer at Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Fund is a non profit, 501(c) (3) endowed fund managed by The Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation. 5% of the Fund’s assets are spent each year. This spending figure represents the proportion that historically can be spent without diminishing the principal amount of the Fund. Each donor has the assurance that their gift will live on, increasing over time, so that it will continue to benefit families for generations to come.
The Make a Wish Foundation of Central and Western Carolina became an interregnal part of Zach’s journey through the cancer world. He requested that 20% of the yearly spend be distributed to them.
Distributions are made based on recommendations from a team of nurses, social workers, and office staff who are in a position of identifying those families with the most severe needs. Once a family has been identified and after all other community, state and federal programs have been exhausted, The Zach Ramsey Children’s Cancer Fund becomes active, allowing families a financial reprieve when no other option is available to them.
It was Zach’s expressed desire for us to continue to raise money for his fund so that families could focus on each other and concentrate on curing their child without the added stress of financial ruin.
